You know how it is, it's the first time you've done something so you decide to follow instructions to the letter... Unfortunately for you and your family's taste buds, the instructions happen to be how to cook a fillet of salmon.. You follow these instructions And you end up with overcooked fish and slimy skin.. No one under 70 enjoys it and your kids are put off fish for a couple of decades or so.. I've got to wonder, who the hell comes up with these crap things? I'd love to know if the same product sold in France with the same instructions.. Is our food so deplorable that big corporations don't see any profit in improving it? Anyway, tonight was my turn to cook so I set a timer for 30 minutes and came up with this With 8 minutes to spare. All fish consumed even by my fussy af toddler, and with the added bonus of spending less time cooking so more time chasing said toddler around the house in a gruffalo costume

They are that way to ensure food reaches a temperature to kill all possible bacteria and bugs that may be in the food. It's the food manufacturers/ processors waiver to claim that they have instructed how to make the food safe not necessarily tasty and appetizing.

It is a shame that we have had to go down the route of overcooking everything from the instructions but unfortunately we have become too much of a blame culture. It’s the same for expiration dates. No milkman bottles ever had them when it’s was the glass with foil tops but mass production now means we need to be told when it is going off even though it is likely to be a week too soon in some cases.
In response to your France comment I actually had some French colleagues over for a week and they had never been to the uk and actually commented how nice the food was over here. Granted there was no weatherspoons type meals had by them!
