Just a quick heads up to anyone holidaying in UK this summer: National Highways have updated changed their procedures for vehicles rejoining motorways from the Emergency Refuge Areas so now rejoining the carriageway is not as safe as it was a month ago.. You used to be able to request a lane closure straight away (to give yourself a chance to get up to motorway speeds) but now if traffic is too heavy/ignoring the 'lane divert' instructions, you have to ring them again to request a closure.
I recover at least 4 vehicles a week from an ERA and the amount of time I've spent waiting for them to answer the phone can sometimes feel like I'm on hold to HMRC..
0300 123 5000 to get in touch with them (can be more reliable than the SOS phones) ENGLAND ONLY Traffic Scotland: 0800 028 1414 Traffic Wales: 0845 602 6020
I'm not sure if policies for traffic Wales/Scotland have changed
Please check your tyres, oil and coolant levels before you travel, gents.
